Arrival:

Finding and accessing the house 🧭

Our home is located at 110 Ludwig Strasse, Bartlett, NH 03812. Your GPS may correct the address to Intervale, Glen, or Bartlett, all are correct. Look for the red “110” sign at the end of the driveway. Some GPS apps are a little off when telling you that you’ve arrived.
Please park in the driveway and not in the yard (our septic system is just to the left of the driveway.)

The front door is accessed with a keypad on the front door; you’ll be given the code the morning of your check-in.
  • Touch the Yale logo at the top of the keypad to wake the lock up and you'll see numbers appear.
  • Enter the code followed by the check symbol, and the door will unlock.
  • To lock the door when leaving, touch the Yale logo, and listen to hear the door lock.

Internet/WiFi 🛜

We have fast 300+ Mbps internet/wifi service throughout the house. The network name is 110 Ludwig, and the password is wildcat110 (all lower case, no spaces.) The wifi is always on and you shouldn’t have any trouble connecting. You may notice that there’s a wifi extender in the primary bedroom beneath the nightstand to ensure good coverage downstairs too.

Snow Removal 🌨️

The driveway is professionally plowed when there is more than a few inches of snow. If possible, please park to the left side of the driveway when pulling in when snow is forecasted so the plow can push snow toward the woods. Shovels and sand are provided for the steps and to clear a path up to and behind your car (the plow can only get so close.) Please understand that during larger storms there may be several hours between plow visits.

Wildlife 🐻

During the spring, summer and fall months, black bears visit often. While they are timid and won't bother you, they are wild animals who should be given space and are always on the hunt for food. Don’t leave food or trash outside, keep the front door closed and cars locked

Firepit & Woodstove:

Instructions ⚠️

Fires are dangerous to homes and humans. Please read through this entire section, and recognize that you are responsible for using the firepit and woodstove safely. If you have questions, let us know - we are happy to help and would rather you ask than run into a problem!

Using the Firepit 🪵

You will need a permit to use the firepit ($5) from the state of NH. This is an easy online process:
  • Go to nh.burnsafeamerica.com and click “Obtain Permit”. Select a daily “1001 Category I Fire Permit”.
(Note - you can do this anytime, but not more than 48 hours before the date of your burn.)
  • Enter the required information including the start and end date. The address of the burn is 110 Ludwig Strasse, Bartlett, NH 03812.
  • Let us know and we'll send you written permission from the property owner to have for your records (though you won't be asked for this when getting your permit.)
Using the firepit is straightforward:
  • Locate the hose on the side of the house so you know where it is.
  • Start with 2-3 logs and add more as needed. Use small logs as kindling or fire starters - do not burn paper, cardboard, etc as it creates flying embers.
  • Make sure the fire is completely extinguished before leaving the firepit area. Do not leave a burning fire unattended.
  • The plug for the overhead bistro lights is located on the front of the shed.
  • Please be mindful of noise (especially after quiet hours begin at 11pm.)

Using the Woodstove 🪵

Getting a fire started:
  • Firewood can be found on the hearth, under the deck, and behind the house. Lighters are in the kitchen drawer.
  • First, make sure the damper handle (on the top left side when looking straight at the woodstove) is in the horizontal position, and the air intake (the small metal lever on the back left) is in the open/left position. Load the woodstove with 3-4 logs using the left side door.
  • Crack open the sliding door to create a draft up the chimney. Light the fire and watch it for a minute or two to see that the logs are catching. (You shouldn’t see or smell any smoke coming out into the house.) Once it’s started, shut and lock the door, then reduce the air intake/temperature control (small lever on the back left that you first opened).
  • Every surface including the white handles will quickly become hot. Use the provided gloves before touching anything.
  • If you need to re-open the woodstove, FIRST be sure the damper handle (top left) is in the horizontal position/parallel to the floor, then slowly open the left side door. If done incorrectly, smoke will billow out into the house.
Tips for use:
  • The damper handle (top left white handle) is used to control the speed of the burn. If you want the fire to last for extended periods of time, turn the damper to the vertical position (perpendicular to the floor) and this will recycle the smoke within the stove for a longer burn. Do not re-open the woodstove with the damper handle in this position.
  • The temperature control for the stove is the thin metal lever on the back, left side, of the stove, and is used to make a hotter fire. Turning it to the right closes the air intake, and reduces the fire temperature. Turning it to the left opens the air intake, increasing the fire temperature. (After adjusting it will take a bit of time for the stove to heat up or cool down.

Climate Control 🌡️

The house is equipped with several different systems to keep you comfortable. If you are out for the day, help us conserve energy by setting the heat to 65 in winter and turning off the AC units in summer. Please don’t turn the main thermostat below 55 degrees.
  • Main thermostat 🔥 - The heat is controlled by the thermostats in the kitchen and in the primary bedroom on the wall by the closet.
  • Bedroom exchange fan 🔥 - The dial on the wall next to the loft ladder turns on an air exchange fan that pulls warm air to the downstairs bedrooms. It’s an efficient way to move heat downstairs before bed.
  • Woodstove 🔥 - Please read the instructions below carefully before using the woodstove.
  • Wall mounted units ❄️ 🔥 - The wall mounted units in the greatroom and the primary bedroom provide both A/C and heat. Each one has its own remote. Please turn these off when leaving the house.

Technology & TVs 📺

  • Using the TVs - The house is equipped with TVs in the greatroom, the loft, and the primary bedroom. You can log in to any of the major streaming services on all three TVs.
  • Using the upstairs/greatroom TV - The Samsung Frame TV can be controlled using the white remote. When turned off it will show artwork when the room is occupied, and fully turn off when motion stops in the room. You can turn the TV completely off anytime by holding down the power button on the remote. The TV has all of the major streaming apps built in - press the home button to see what’s available.
  • Using the primary bedroom TV - Use the Samsung remote to control the TV power, volume, and to change the input if needed (it should always be on “HDMI 1”.) Use the Roku remote to access streaming services and for everything else.
  • Security system & driveway camera - For your safety and the protection of the property, there is a single exterior camera/floodlight pointed toward the driveway. The home is also equipped with a security system that will be turned off when you arrive.
  • Wifi router in primary bedroom - The white device in the primary bedroom under the nightstand is a wifi extender.

EV Charging ⚡

There is a Level 2 (50 amp) EV charger on the side of the house that you are free to use throughout your stay. It is equipped with a J1772 plug which fits most vehicles. Teslas will require the adapter that came with your vehicle. Just plug it in and you should be good to go.

Checking Out 🛎️

Check out is at 10am. At the end of your stay, there are a few simple things we ask of you…
  • Kitchen - Please take care of any dirty dishes, and if you used the grill, clean it and make sure the propane is shut off.
  • Trash & Dumpsters - Please dispose of all household trash at the dumpsters. You will need to display the 'Linderhof' placard on your dashboard as you pull up to the dumpsters. The placard can be found on the bookshelf next to the front door. Please remember to return the placard! To find the dumpsters, leave the driveway, head down the hill, take your first right onto Santa Lane, then your first left onto Christmas Mountain Road. There are dumpsters on the left in the parking lot.
  • Thermostats - Please set the main thermostats to 60 degrees to ensure that our pipes don’t freeze. Turn off the wall mounted AC units & fans.
  • Locking up - Please ensure that the lights are all off and the doors and windows are all shut and locked.

We really hope you enjoyed your stay! We hope to see you back here in the White Mountains again soon.
